Number of ultra-rapid EV charging points grows in the UK by 68% - Frotcom

The United Kingdom's electric vehicle (EV) charging network is getting a big boost, specifically regarding faster charging options. According to recent data, there was a 68% increase in ultra-fast charging points between September 2022 and September 2023, offering electric vehicle drivers faster and more convenient charging capabilities. And that's not all: the number of traditional electric charging stations has also increased by 68%. By the end of September 2023, the UK had 1,457 ultra-rapid devices installed in service stations, an increase of 82% compared to 2022. Additionally, there was a 61% increase in devices placed in retail parking lots, totaling 892.

A significant highlight is that the number of high-power charging hubs has more than doubled since September 2022. The locations with six or more ultra-rapid charging devices have witnessed an impressive 123% increase, reaching a total of 196 spots across the UK. This growth in charging infrastructure is excellent news for electric vehicle drivers, particularly those planning longer journeys, as they now have access to an additional 108 new charging centers in the UK.

Where can drivers find these ultra-rapid chargers?

Service stations and retail car parks are the main spots, experiencing an 82% increase in service stations and a 61% increase in retail car parks. Regarding the different regions, every part of mainland Great Britain, except Greater London, has seen a growth of 50% or more in ultra-fast charging points. The North East, Scotland, and Wales have shown the highest increases, demonstrating that more people across the country are benefiting from better access to EV charging.

These numbers show the real growth in UK charging points and emphasize a clear effort to make EV charging more accessible for people in different areas. As advancements continue in the charging infrastructure, the positive trends in these recent statistics are a good sign for the future of electric mobility in the UK. It is a step towards cleaner and more sustainable transportation options for everyone.
